Learn more about Hard Stop Orders
You invest to make money. When you buy a stock, your objective is to sell
it at some point down the road for a profit. Planning your exit
strategy (the price at which you would be
comfortable selling your shares) is a critical component of a more
disciplined approach to investing.
A Hard Stop Order lets
you place an order to sell stock that you own at a price that
is above the current market price. Much like a Limit Sell Order,
with a Hard Stop
Order,
you select a firm or "hard" price at which you are prepared to sell your stock
to lock in your gains. Hard Stop Orders become limit orders when
triggered. Hard Stop Orders have no
set expiry date, they are good until you order is filled or you cancel
the order.
