TSX Symbol Changes

In April 2004, the TSX Group announced changes to stock symbols that will allow stock listings to be identified by their voting structure. This symbol change will be reflected in stocks with unusual voting structure, starting on October 1, 2004.

Note: The TSX symbol change initiative may impact certain services offered on our website (e.g. your existing Alerts, Watchlists and the Portfolio Tracker).

The following types of voting structures will have voting structure identifiers:

  • NV – non-voting shares
  • MV – multiple-voting shares
  • SV – subordinate-voting shares
  • LV – limited-voting shares
  • RV – restricted-voting shares

The changes for the voting structure indicators are scheduled to begin on Friday, October 1st with a completion date of December 13, 2004. The schedule and the complete list of symbols to be modified is available on www.tsx.com.

Non-convertible note securities are also impacted by this change. They are now identified by the note identifier extension – NT. The changes for the notes identifiers were completed in mid-August 2004.

Impact of TSX Symbol Changes on our website
For the most part, we will handle these changes “behind the scene”. However, certain services offered on our website may be impacted. If you use one of these services (e.g. Alerts and Watchlists available to BMO InvestorLine clients or Portfolio Tracker and Stock Watch List available on our public website) and are following a stock symbol impacted by the change, you will need to re-enter the new symbol.
